A cold rainy Tuesday in St. Paul, Minnesota had no hinderance on the anticipation of the return of the Industrial Metal Titans, Ministry. The tour was touted as “Celebrating 30 years of The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste and the release of Moral Hygiene.” St. Paul got much more than that on this night.

While Ministry are no strangers to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, this was their first time upon the stage at the Palace Theatre. Their show starting off with Ukrainian Flag displayed with the words “Ministry Stands with Ukraine” as the national anthem played. Complete with 8ft high fencing running across the entire stage, Al Jourgensen wasted no time getting the crowd amped up as he stated “St. Paul, its good to be back” as they went into their 1989 classic “Breathe.” It was evident from Roy Mayorga’s drum intro alone that this show was going to be well worth the wait. The crowd instantly whipped into a frenzy and remained that way for the remainder of the show.

Ministry did a great job of hitting their older part of their catalog with cranking out songs like “Deity” ‘Stigmata” “Thieves” as well as some covers like Black Sabbath’s “Supernaut” and Pailhead’s “Don’t Stand in Line” and “Man Should Surrender.” As the show went on, Ministry showed absolutely no signs of slowing down at all. They hit the crowd at the Palace Theatre with the one-two punch of “N.W.O” and “Just One Fix” and to see that many fans still going ballistic for those songs made the experience of the night even better.

They closed out the night with “So What” then venturing into “Alert level” and ‘Good Trouble” off the 2021 release MORAL HYGIENE. The final song of the night a cover of Iggy and the Stooges “Search & Destroy.” Which seemed to be the perfect way to end the night.

One thing was for certain, Al Jourgensen has done a phenomenal job surrounding himself with some top-notch musicians. Having Roy Mayorga on drums, Paul D’Amour on bass, Cesar Soto & Monte Pittman on guitar and John Bechdel on keys, their talent plus their on-stage personas blend seamlessly with AL and the music of Ministry. I’ve had the luxury of seeing Ministry many times over the years, but this was by far and away my favorite performance I have seen them put forth. With some very large tours & festival appearances slated for later in 2022, this is one show that can’t be missed.
