FOZZY "Capturing Judas" livestream review!

Chris Jericho said it best during the Fozzy “Capturing Judas” livestream “This livestream is the beginning and the end of the Judas tour cycle.”

The beginning was a fantastic 30 minute documentary “Fozzy Across America” starting the day the album Judas was released at a radio station in Ft. Myers, FL talking about doing a 3 state tour in 3 different time zones in less than 24 hours. Next, we got to travel along with the band as they had a 9am show in Ft. Myers, FL then a plane ride to El Paso, TX for a 3pm show, and then back on the plane to get to Las Vegas for an 11:30pm show.

An impressive feat in itself not only that they played a full set in each of these cities but also did some meet and greets and made to each venue on time!

The best part about this doc is that you got to see the personality of each member of the band which led into what you were about to see with the live set from Madison Studios in Atlanta, GA.

Chris Jericho, guitarists Rich Ward and Billy Grey, bassist P.J. Farley and drummer Frank Fontsere spent a good chunk of time in between each song having some great banter back and forth with each other talking about their favorite countries on the Judas tour cycle, opening for Iron Maiden, Nickelback or Three Days Grace at different spots along the tour, and when each member of the band heard the first demo of “Judas” among many other topics.

The roughly 2 hour 15 min livestream flew by as this was you hanging out in the recording studio with Fozzy. This feeling made it stand out from any other livestream out there. 5 guys in a circle hanging out having fun playing some songs. No special lighting, no CO2 or pyro … this was just about the rock.

The band was in spectacular form as they tore thru a 13 song set with a heavy helping from the Judas album, the newer single “Nowhere to Run” and a couple of tracks from the Sin and Bones and Do You Wanna Start a War? albums as well as “Enemy” from the All That Remains album. Since I’ve only seen them in festival settings where they jam 5-6 songs in their 30 minute allotted time, this was a nice to get to experience a few deeper cuts in the set that I haven’t heard live like “One Crazed Anarchist” and “Wolves at Bay”.

I really do hope that they eventually put this out to purchase digitally, on cd and/or vinyl as I feel this is a shining moment in the bands’ history. The background vocal harmonies Chris, Rich, Billy and P.J. have together sound fantastic on the songs in the set. Each member of the band got a chance to shine and this is easily the best Fozzy has ever sounded. “Burn Me Out” and “Nowhere to Run” sound better here than they do on the record and that’s not a knock on the recorded versions. That’s just how great these guys sound live together!
